Supporting the Next Generation: emma Champions Early-Career Researchers in Media Management

emma continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to fostering the development of early-career researchers in the field of media management. Through a variety of initiatives, emma provides support and opportunities for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to grow their academic careers and become active members of the scientific community.

One key initiative is the Early Career Researcher EMMA Annual Conference Grant, which helps emerging scholars gain exposure and recognition by enabling them to present their research at the prestigious emma annual conference. Following a careful selection process, we are delighted to announce this year’s grant recipients: Alessandra Natasha Costa Ramos from the Communication Institute of NOVA University of Lisbon and Hanne Vandenbroucke from imec-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, . Congratulations to both scholars!

In addition to the grant, emma hosts a PhD Workshop on the day preceding the annual conference, providing a platform for young researchers to engage with peers and senior scholars in a supportive environment. For more information, click here.

emma also organises a bi-annual Summer School, which offers an enriching international experience where PhD researchers and early postdocs can present and refine their work, gain expert feedback, and build meaningful professional networks. We are happy to invite early career researchers to participate in the upcoming emma Doctoral Summer School 2025, hosted by imec-SMIT-Vrije Universiteit Brussel from September 2-5 in Brussels, Belgium. The application deadline is the 1st of May 2025.

These efforts reflect emma’s ongoing mission to cultivate an inclusive, and forward-thinking community of media management scholars.
