In 2025, the emma award goes to… Ulrike Rohn!
Ulrike Rohn is a Professor of Media Management and Economics at Tallinn University’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School in Estonia. She is also the co-head of the university’s Centre of Excellence in Media Innovation and Digital Culture (MEDIT).
Before joining Tallinn University, Ulrike completed her PhD at the University of Jena in Germany in 2009, and worked as a post doc researcher at the University of Tartu’s Institute of Journalism and Communication between 2009 and 2014.
Ulrike has greatly contributed to developing emma by serving as its president from 2016-2021, after being its deputy president between 2014 and 2016. She has also been an editor of emma’s flagship journal, the Journal of Media Business Studies, between 2014 and 2022.
Beyond these important roles, Ulrike has been essential for developing media management scholarship, for example by co-editing the volume ‘Media management matters: Challenges and opportunities for bridging theory and practice’, published by Routledge in 2020, but also by a range of other contributions to journals, handbooks and edited volumes.
Ulrike has also developed the field by successfully attracting and leading large-scale EU projects, such as the Screen Media Entrepreneurship project, bringing together emma members from six EU countries. This project is exemplary for Ulrike’s quest of bringing together academia and practice.
