The emma Doctoral Summer School 2023 was hosted by LUT Business School in Lappeenranta, Finland, on August 14-18.
The Doctoral Summer School covered the following themes:
- Thesis/research feedback: doctoral students and early-stage post-docs (1-2 years from the defense) presented their research and receive feedback from senior faculty and peers.
- Early career development: e.g., building portfolio, networking in the academic community, writing for an academic journal
- Methodological advancements: new emerging research methods and approaches
- Making impact: Meeting with media practitioners and scholars to discuss the current topics.
The participants of the Summer School received a certificate for either 4 or 6 ECTS. The workload for the program itself was 4 ECTS, which included participation in the sessions for the full week, a presentation on own research, and reading and discussing theses (or research plans) of other participants. If the participant wished to complete an additional assignment after the intensive week, the total credits in the certificate were 6 ECTS. The additional work is an analysis of a chosen topic related to the summer school and one’s own research.
